Education

Completed basic studies at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Niš, Department of Dentistry in 2009.

Doctorate at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Niš, Department of Dentistry, Department of Basic Research in Dentistry. The topic of the doctoral dissertation is entitled “Interaction of mesenchymal stem cells from periapical lesions and phagocytes”. Data on the dissertation are available on the NaRDuS (National Repository of PhD Dissertation in Serbia) portal.

Research field

Within the framework of fundamental and applied research in the fields of immunobiology, biotechnology and biomedicine, Milan have been working on examining the immunomodulatory properties of mesenchymal stem cells isolated from dental tissue (dental mesenchymal stem cells, d-MSC) in co-cultures with cells of innate and acquired immunity. The results of these researches are the majority part of the doctoral dissertation of Dr. Milan Marković.
The second part of the research was related to the examination of the biocompatibility of differently prepared nanomaterials (gold nanoparticles, cellulose and synthetic polymer nanofibers, etc.) and their modulatory effect on the functions of cells of the immune system. Within immuno-oncology, he also dealt with investigations related to the molecular mechanisms of inflammation and cancer control from the aspect of physiological and pharmacological effects of bioactive substances.

Professional engagement

Since 2011th, Milan has been engaged as a collaborator on the project of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia entitled “Application of functional carbon nanotubes and gold nanoparticles for the preparation of dendritic cells in tumor therapy” (OI 175102) under the direction of Academician Miodrag Čolić at the Academy of Medical Sciences in Belgrade. While working on the project, he was elected to a higher research position (Researcher Assistant) at the Faculty of Medicine in Niš. From 2019-08-01 until 2019-12-31 is a collaborator on the MPNTR RS Project. No. 173013 entitled “Molecular mechanisms of physiological and pharmacological control of inflammation and cancer”, under the direction of Dr Danijela Maksimović-Ivanić at the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” (IBISS), University of Belgrade.
Milan successfully completed training course on working with laboratory animals for scientific researchers (Category B). The content of the course is based on the guidelines defined by the directive 2010/63/EU for the use of animals in research.
Milan was elected 2020-03-23 to the scientific title of Research Associate in the field of natural-mathematical sciences-biology at the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” in Belgrade.
